The problem: There is a ethnicity and gender gap within the tech industries, and a weariness to learn ‘techy’ softwares at universities.

Solution: We self-taught creative tech to ourselves and realised that learning tech within a context is easier to understand than learning tech for the sake fo tech

Techbox is a series of workshops/hackathons developed to explore accessibility and activism using creative technology tools, across the process of designing, ideation, and much more. It was awarded the Creative Enterprise Award for Best Community from UAL.

Our workshops range from 1-hour introductions to 3-days hackathons, in real life or online. We currently teach Augmented Reality within the lens of storytelling and activism and are the only folks in the UK to do so. We teach two AR softwates and guide participants from the design, ideation and prototyping stages, to the delivery stage, in a collaborative environment that encourages cooperation instead of competition. Our participants present their work at the end and get a certificate to acknowledge their new skills. By drawing on a diverse and politically minded community of designers and technologists for our references, we highlight the potential of creative tech when used for activism and social improvement.
